THE WOMEN ON THE 6TH FLOOR…Paris, 1960. Jean-Louis (Fabrice Luchini, Potiche) lives a bourgeois existence absorbed in his work, cohabitating peacefully with his neurotic socialite wife Suzanne (Sandrine Kiberlain, Mademoiselle Chambon) while their children are away at boarding school. The couple’s world is turned upside-down when they hire a Spanish maid María (Natalia Verbeke). Through María, Jean-Louis is introduced to an alternative reality just a few floors up on the building’s sixth floor, the servants’ quarters. He befriends a group of sassy Spanish maids (Pedro Almodóvar regular Carmen Maura, Lola Dueñas, Berta Ojea, Nuria Solé, Concha Galán), refugees of the Franco regime, who teach him there’s more to life than stocks and bonds, and whose influence on the house will ultimately transform everyone’s life. In French and Spanish, with English subtitles.
This weekend I went to see the movie, Midnight in Paris, and I know it’s received mixed reviews but I along with The New York Times believe it was “Marvelously Romantic”. The movie was like a romantic history lesson that left me wanting more. Woody Allen is wonderful in his New York City films and it’s nice to see he can do just as good and original in Barcelona, Paris and I’m sure he’ll bring it to Rome, where its said he’s working on his next film.
Watch it you’ll enjoy it too 🙂
I did miss the first 15mins of the movie 😦
I’ve been sick all weekend. I’ve been self medicating and hoping to get better to watch the movie, Midnight in Paris, but that didn’t happen. So after tons of pills and teas I can say I feel better but not 100% yet. I have a dinner to go to tomorrow and I hope I feel better so I can taste it.
